5 WAYS TO GET BACK ON TRACK POST-OP WLS

Let's be honest. We ALL fall off the wagon at some point or another. Knowing how to get back on the wagon is crucial to your overall success.

Here are our top 5 tips for getting back on track:

1. Track EVERYTHING you eat and drink.

Download the Baritastic app or any other food journaling app. You can also go old school with a notebook & pen! This is the number one way to hold yourself accountable for your diet. If you've been eating like crap for the past few days, nothing will make you want to skip the fried chicken and eat some veggies & a protein shake like having to write it down. Don't ya think?

2. Track your daily steps.

Setting simple activity goals like reaching a daily step count is an easy way to get back on track with your healthy lifestyle. Here are a few of our favorite step-tracking apps:

3. Begin weighing yourself on Friday mornings.

Most people are so tempted to weigh-in on a Monday morning, typically after a weekend of unhealthy eating which only causes frustration. We encourage people to check their weight on a Friday morning. Give yourself five days of healthy eating, tracking your food & your steps, THEN weigh yourself. Chances are you won't be super upset with the number which can be encouraging for you to stay strong with your healthy habits through the weekend.

4. Set up appointments to meet with your surgeon and your dietitian.

It can't hurt to set a date with your surgeon and/or dietitian to talk about your progress or lack thereof. They are KEY players in this life-long journey and they want to help you, no matter how far off track you've gotten.

5. Rally your support system.

Let your friends and fam know that you've noticed yourself falling back into old, unhealthy habits and that you need some support to get back on track. Being open and honest about your struggles and successes with your support system is huge.

The last thing you should do if you've fallen off track is to continue going off track! When you've recognized that old habits have started to sink in (skipping your workouts, not getting enough protein, slacking on your vitamins...) start doing these five things to get yourself back on track!
